The edge of the Earth is just as messed up as everywhere else, despite what they pretend. Probably more, according to Sky Atlantic’s new series Fortitude.
The new drama takes viewers to a small town named Fortitude in the Arctic that’s renowned for being one of the safest places on Earth (which makes sense, because it is in the middle of the Arctic and one would imagine a quick getaway is near impossible). It might be worth watching just for the beauty of the Arctic, but fortunately the plot is even more compelling than the production is aesthetically pleasing.
There’s a horrifying murder straight from the off, which unfortunately coincides with the arrival of young scientist Vincent Rattrey (Luke Treadaway, Clash of the Titans), putting him in the frame immediately for disrupting the tranquility of Fortitude. But the lives of the residents of Fortitude are not quite as peaceful as they seem…
Fortitude boasts an all-star cast, including Richard Dormer (Game of Thrones), Sofie Gråbøl (The Killing), Stanley Tucci (The Hunger Games), Christopher Eccleston (The Leftovers), Michael Gambon (Harry Potter), Jessica Raine (Call the Midwife), Nicholas Pinnock (Top Boy), Sienna Guillory (Luther) and Verónica Echegui (The Cold Light of Day).
The first feature-length episode airs tonight on Sky Atlantic at 9pm.
